Our Story

Founded in the picturesque valley of Hout Bay in 1989, Hout Bay Harriers has been bringing together runners of all levels for over three decades. Guided by our vision to build a vibrant, inclusive community, we promote health, fitness, and well-being through the joy of running.

Our mission is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where runners of all backgrounds can thrive, celebrating achievements together and fostering a strong sense of community spirit.

Through iconic weekly runs, engaging events, and cherished traditions, we inspire a lifelong love for running, social interaction, and healthy living, making Hout Bay Harriers a true home for every runner.

What Our Members Say

Tuesday evenings are the heart of our weekly activities at Hout Bay Harriers. Whether you're looking to challenge yourself with a time trial or enjoy a scenic group run, there's something for everyone:

  • First Tuesday of the Month:

    • 5km Time Trial: A fast, scenic, and flat route starting from the village center, passing through the Hout Bay Harbour. Times are recorded and shared in our WhatsApp group for those tracking their progress.

  • Every Other Tuesday:

    • Group Runs: Enjoy diverse routes around Hout Bay with two pace groups starting at 18:00:

      • 8km – 6-7 min/km.

      • 11km – 5 min/km.

A run captain is appointed for each group who makes sure runners stay together and are guided on the route. The routes are fun and challenging with mixture of flat and hilly sections. Chapmans Peak drive is a favourite with sunsets and amazing views.

Starts at
Beach Bar and join us back there after every run to enjoy a drink with members across the community!
